Our Story

"Brooklyn...we did it!" - Christopher Wallace bka Notorious B.I.G.

In the spring of 2020, a few months deep into the Covid-19 pandemic shut down, two donut lovin, running buddies who reside in Brooklyn (what The GURU from the legendary Gang Starr affectionately nicknamed "The Planet"), were pretty down in the mouth. They were speaking remorsefully about the fact that ALL the NYC borough runs had been canceled. Every full and half-marathon. Every 10 Mile and 10K. Even the 5K's got the axe. As they sat at a table, feeling gloomy about the future of their organized event running, the one known as C made a suggestion.

"Why don't we just make our own"

"Our own what?, asked P.

"Our own half-marathon, dude!"

A pause.

"Can we do that?"

"Why not?!" replied C. "We could ask other friends if they wanna join us. Even, start in Prospect Park. Have a socially distanced outdoor party afterwards..."

As C is famous for, when she gets a bright idea, she commenced rolling 'said idea', down hill like an avalanche in the Andes. Collecting more and more brilliant ideas as she went along. Until your entire ski lodge is buried in brilliant ideas. Someone please alert the rescue Saint Bernard who makes martini's out of the barrel attached to his collar! Only a dry gibson can truly save us from the mounds of C's brilliant idea filled avalanche.

"But, wait wait, wait. Hold up!" interrupted P. "Can we really, like for real really do that?!"

"We can make a map, come up with different routes for different distances, have a finish line party in a park when we complete the run"

"So, lemme get this straight..."

"Yeah?"

"We just call up some friends..."

"Yup."

" Tell 'em we're gonna organize our own half..."

"Uh huh. We could even raise money for a nonprofit."

"Which nonprofit?"

"Whatever nonprofit we want."

"Word?"

"Sure."

Another long quixotic pause. Then...

"Can we do that?" ask P.

"It's our half. We can do whatever we want!" exclaimed C.

"Word?!"

"Word."

A short pause, this time.

"Word!" said P, excited

"Awesome! said C, relieved. ...Now, can you make me another gibson, please?"
